Table Mountain is one of the 7 wonders of the world, so a definite must-see when visiting or living in Cape Town.
The Table Mountain Aerial Cableway Company enables visitors to enjoy the breath-taking views without the hassle of climbing up or down Table Mountain. However, the more adventurous, can also opt for a one way ticket, and hike up and take the cable cars down again, or vis a verse.
On the plateau there are also numerous other activities visitors can participate in. There are three easy hiking trails on top of the plateau, which can be combined so you can see as much (or as little) as you want on the plateau and of the beautiful view. There are also 30min guided tours departing every hour from 09:00 to 15:00, from the Twelve Apostles Terrace, below the Café. These tours are free, family friendly walks conducted by their staff, who share the story of Table Mountain and the Cableway, and provide any assistance you may require. You can also abseil down a short cliff face with Abseil Africa.
There is also a self-service restaurant offering a range of food and drinks, snacks, desserts and wines. They also offer readymade picnic packs to be enjoyed anywhere on the plateau, while enjoying the wonderful view over Cape Town, Table Bay, the surrounding mountains and the rest of the Table Mountain National Park. And don’t forget to pop into the little shop to take home a souvenir.
The Cable cars are only open when weather permits it, so be sure to check online, on their Twitter or Facebook page, if they are open, before departing.
